Olifants River – Citrusdal

K1-paddlers use different sections of the Olifants River for practise and racing purposes. This part of the Olifants runs through a beautiful region next to the Cederberg mountain range.

MAP 2

The river is relatively flat with only a few small rapids. What make it difficult are the narrow palmiet channels, resulting in fast currents and tight corners. There is also a weir to look out for more or less halfway. At high levels one can go straight over, but at lower levels it should be portaged.

This river description is taken from my book “Run the Rivers of Southern Africa”.
