Gauteng is the financial heartland of South Africa, and as a result also home to a large number of paddlers. It is the smallest province in the country, accounting for only 1.5% of the land area, but due to its location on the highveld, a number of the rivers that form the upper reaches of the Vaal-Orange and Limpopo river basins originate in or run through Gauteng.
The rivers are listed according to their geographic locations, starting in the south of Gauteng, and working clockwise around the province.
- Klip River
- Vaal River
- Jukskei / Highveld Crocodile River
- Apies River
- Wilge River
The following rivers are not in Gauteng, but they are close enough that paddlers based in the province regularly make a day trip to paddle these sections.
