Great Fish River – Halsowen to Mortimer

This part of the Great Fish is a great section for K1-paddlers, who use it for training purposes. It is also a good section for beginner to intermediate paddlers.

  • Ideal for: K1, croc, kayak
  • Grade: 1 to 2
  • Length: 22km
  • Duration: 2 to 4 hours
  • Type: Long pools, small rapids
  • Put-in: Bridge at Halsowen
  • Take-out: Bridge at Mortimer
  • Dam controlled: Grassridge Dam
  • Permits: None

There is one big weir on the way down, which should be portaged. Also look out for fences which can be hazardous, but they are easily avoidable.

There are no good holes or waves, so playboaters needn’t take the time.
